Centennial, Colo., Jan. 31, 2024 - Colorado Public Radio today announced the second season of its podcast “Terra Firma” will begin Feb. 14. “Terra Firma” presents short stories from CMarie Fuhrman, a Colorado-born, Indigenous poet and writer, with outdoor sounds collected on public lands by sound recordist Jacob Job.
“The sounds of nature are so restorative,” Fuhrman says in the trailer. “They help us connect with the planet, with each other, with who we really are. That’s what ‘Terra Firma’ is all about.”
“‘Terra Firma’ provides everyone with a chance to recenter our interactions with nature through natural sounds and intentional way of being,” said Job. “I hope we've inspired people to explore their own connection to nature via these avenues.”
As with the first season, the new episodes will each be 5-10 minutes long. The show was designed to provide listeners with a connection to nature no matter where they are when they listen. The stories and sounds featured in the podcast aim to transport listeners to remote places in Colorado and Idaho: rivers, lakes, wilderness and an abandoned Forest Service road.
Fuhrman’s writing is rooted in the landscape of the West. She is the author of “Camped Beneath the Dam: Poems,” and co-editor of the anthologies “Native Voices: Indigenous Poetry, Craft, and Conversations” and the award-winning “Cascadia Field Guide: Art, Ecology, and Poetry.” Fuhrman’s work can be found in several journals, anthologies and films. She is the Associate Director of the Graduate Program in Creative Writing at Western Colorado University, where she teaches nature writing and poetry, and a former Idaho Writer in Residence.
The outdoor sounds featured in each episode were gathered in nature by Dr. Jacob Job. Job is a conservationist, scientist and field recordist working to enhance conservation efforts by engaging the public on issues related to biodiversity, sustainability and land conservation and preservation using natural sounds recordings, education and stewardship. He is a National Geographic Explorer, project lead of “Sounds of Your Park,” and producer of Scientific American’s “National Park Nature Walks.”
